Itinerary

Yangon – Golden Rock – Hpa-an – Mawlamyine – Kyaik-khami (Amherst) – Ba lu kyun (The Ogre Island) – Bago - Yangon
( 7 Days / 6 Nights )

Day 1.Yangon ( Arrival )

Arrive at Yangon International Airport, warmly welcome by our company representative. After check in hotel, take your time free. Upon to your arrival time at Yangon, you can make half day sightseeing in the town or take a rest at your hotel to refresh for your great tip in Myanmar. Dinner and one night stay at hotel in Yangon will serve you pleasure.

 

Day 2 .Yangon – Golden Rock

Straight out of Yangon by car after breakfast, then stop at the War cemetery in Htauk-kyan (a small busy town with a tiny local market) just outside Yangon. Past the Bago Division filled with fields of paddy, peas and beans, and reach another minute town, named Waw, with lots of opened fish placed in the scorching sun to get dry at the roadside. Arrive at the Sittaung River (formerly the Sittang River) that separates the division and the Mon State. Cross the bridge, start seeing the rubber forest, the today identity of Mon land, then get the truck – there is an occasional alternate system between the trucks and bamboo-sedan-chairs carried by four men from halfway to the top – up to the Golden Rock after lunch. Enjoy the sunset at the Golden Rock where Buddha’s hair is believed to be pied inside. It is one of the holiest sites in Myanmar where huge number of Burmese pilgrims go to annually. The massive golden top rock is in the amazing precarious position at the edge of the based boulder. Overnight will be at a hotel on the hill side.

 

Day 3.Golden – Hpa-an

After breakfast, get down to the foot of the mountain to proceed to Hpa-an across the mighty Thanlwin river. In the midway town Thaton, enjoy tea at a local teashop with indigenous people together. Before the long bridge to cross the river, observe the Kaw-gun cave which has numerous small Buddha stuccos on the side walls. Afterward continue to Hpa-an, the eastern-banked town which is the capital of the Kayin State. Sightseeing is at the base of the Hill Zwekabin where 1000 Buddhas statues in sitting position are placed, a placid spot Kyauk-ka-lab with a monastery and the downtown Shwe-yin-myaw pagoda. Overnight at the resort Zwekabin.

 

Day 4.Hpa-an – Mawlamyine

After the morning check-out of the hotel, drive out to Mawlamyine by car. Stop at a village namely U Na-auk to view a 19th century monastery offered by U Na-auk, a Mon patriot whose influence in the area arose from timber business. Then proceed to Mawlamyine for lunch and sightseeing. The spots for sightseeing are the Mon museum (closed on Monday and Tuesday), the nunnery school of Queen Sein Done, one of the queens of King Mindon the penultimate king of Myanmar, whose tomb is in the compound, and finally the sunset at the Kipling’s pagoda on top of the hill. Overnight in Mawlamyine.

 

Day 5.Mawlamyine – Kyaik-khami (Amherst)

Firstly, observe the main market of Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon state, as there are two markets, close to each other, and walk in the downtown to have a sight of colonial buildings. Secondly, visit the Pa-auk monastery in the dense rubber forest to have a deep look on a monk’s life and the library of Buddhism. Then proceed to Myaing Gone village to see the biggest reclining Buddha in the world, first. It’s the hollow structure in which people can walk and see around sculptors depicting the life of Buddha and moral stories of Buddhism. Proceed to the war cemetery keeping the tombs of the allied soldiers, the cost of the death railway in order for the connection with Thailand cruelly managed and paved by the Japanese in the WWII, in Than-byu-zayat. Keep going to the end of the land at Amherst with the famous Yay-lal pagoda. Overnight will be again at the same hotel in Mawlamyine.

 

(One Day Optional Sightseeing)

Ba-lu-kyun (The Ogre Island), Cross of the mighty Thanlwin River to reach Ba-lu-kyun (the Ogre Island) by boat in the morning. The sightseeing is with horse carts and stops at workshops of slates, rubber bands and smoking pipes. Taking packed lunch or lunch boxes are suggested. The afternoon bus riding carries you straight to the jetty for public ferry back to Mawlamyine. Overnight back in Mawlamyine.

 

Day 6.Mawlamyine – Bago – Yangon

After breakfast, drive out of Mawlamyine heading towards Bago for lunch. On the way, the tradition of offering alms to monks in quarters can often be seen. After lunch, observe the Shwe-maw-daw pagoda, the tallest stupa in Southeast Asia, the palace site of the 16th century king Bayint-naung who could even influence Thailand, Shwe-thar-lyaung pagoda with the 55m long reclining Buddha and Kyaik-pon pagoda with 4 seated Buddhas. Then back to Yangon for overnight.

 

Day 7.Yangon (Departure)

After leisure morning, we will pick you up at your hotel to Yangon International Airport for your onward departure flight. It will be the end of your great experience on the wonderful trip with Travel Expert.
