Kantharyar is a pleasant beach resort for those who want to get away from the noise, hustle and bustle life of Kantharyar is 104 km south of Ngapali beach in Rakhine state, a six hour drive from Yangon. The drive takes you through paddy fields, orchard, bamboo forest and peaceful villages. Alternately, you can fly part way to thandwe and cut the driving journey to three hours. This quiet, often deserted beach is a pleasant antidote the noise and bustle of the city.
For bird watching enthusiasts, it offers many delights as the area is home to a variety of tropical and migratory birds. Short walks are possible in the surrounding hills.
Hotels in Kinthayar are offered superior and standard rooms, and many have large verandas facing the sea. Local tea shops and cafes offer cheap but tasty dining.
